As i see both website had some different.
In Club Rainbow, it seem that they do not have any animation in the website which is quite
boring and it is just a  simple website
As for the Children’s Aid Society, they show interesting animation and scroll for the users to use
Next the Children’s Aid Society provide maps which is easy aceesss than in Club Rainbow.
Even though in Children’s Aid Society has animation, they are not lagged which means that they have better quality in the web.
Children’s Aid Society also provide online donations which is quite easy for the donors to donate which the Club Rainbow dont have.

Somehow on what i see, in Club Rainbow there needed to be change in the website. There should be easy online inqueries or donation. They also need more development of the design. People wont actually notice it is the Club Rainbow website as there on attention to it.

“The Children’s Aid Society is registered under the Societies Act and manages the Melrose Home. An Executive Committee is elected from among its members and is the governing body for the Home.

The Children’s Aid Society is among the oldest philanthropic organisations in Singapore, having been formed in the late 1800s as the St Nicholas Home.  Its present name was established in 1902.

Melrose Home provides a supportive environment for children between the ages of 4 to 18 years old, a “home away from home” for children and teenagers who need care and protection in a residential setting. These are children whose parents or family members are unable to provide care or to supervise them. Children of other ages are admitted under special circumstances as well depending on their needs.  

The Home is situated in an elevated position with extensive grounds that include a playground, basketball court and football field. The 6,000 square metre property is owned by the Society.

The Home has the capacity to provide quality residential care for 60 children and 15 teenagers. “

PROGRAMMES

Residential Care

The main function of the Melrose Home is the residential care programme.  The dedicated staff at the Home provides safety and security, nurturing care and support to the children in a homely setting and ensure that their needs are met and their interests protected. 

Academic Guidance & Support

The children attend secondary or primary schools, or kindergartens in the neighbourhood. The Home collaborates closely with the schools to monitor the children’s academic development. The staff, together with volunteers and paid tutors provide academic guidance and tutorial support for the children’s educational progress.  

Personal & Social Development

There is a wide range of enrichment programmes to support the intellectual, emotional and social development of the children.  Special attention is also given to programmes that incorporate character building and development of positive attributes such as confidence, integrity, kindness and teamwork, equipping the children to face the challenges in an ever changing and competitive environment

Case Work & Counselling

The Social Workers at Melrose Home manage an Individual Care Plan (ICP) for each child.  The ICP specifies the actions to be taken in addressing family-related issues as well as the various developmental needs of the child. The progress of each child is monitored closely and the ICP is reviewed at least once every 3 months at the Assessment & Review Committee meetings of the Home.

Family & Community Partnership

The Home works with the parents, family members, teachers and community agencies on issues concerning the well-being of the child. The objective is for the child to eventually return to their family when their home circumstances have improved.   

Aftercare & Mentoring

An aftercare programme is put in place when a child leaves the Home to return to the family. The Social Worker will maintain contact with the child, make home visits and and collaborate closely with the teachers or school counsellors to monitor the child’s development.  The Home set up “Melrose Club” in 2009 to offer continued mentoring and support to discharged children.

Donations in kind are given to needy families supported by Club Rainbow. The items most in demand are:
1) Milk Powder – Brand Pediasure – Vanilla flavour only
2) Diapers both baby and adult sizes
3) Food provisions such as rice, noodles, cereals, canned food and beverage
4) Cash
 We work closely with the National University Hospital, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the neonatal ward of the Singapore General Hospital.
 They provide 5 main core that is to provide emotional, informational, educational, social and financial support to our beneficiaries – the children and their families
  We are currently helping more than 470 children and their families
Each year our social workers conduct about 150 home visits and more than     1,000 counselling sessions
   Club Rainbow has Institution of Public Character (IPC) status. All monetary donations qualify for double tax exemption benefits

Let we talk more about their history

1991 – Started when they organised a special camp for children with various chronic and life-threatening illnesses.  Unique feature – attention paid to the health and well-being of each little camper. Each child was paired with an adult Befriender throughout the duration of this residential camp.

1992 – Club Rainbow was born

It now helps more than 450 families and offers a vibrant array of free services including personalised counselling, group sharing sessions, social activities, tuition and financial assistance when necessary.
January 2007 – Club Rainbow established its first purpose-built facility  the Rainbow Family Care Centre.
Serves as the focal point of our many services and activities. It has two other branches located in the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and in the National University Hospital.

From what i see they quite popular among the hospital  in Singapore. Somehow they need volunteer to help in the organisation as to organise and to be part of the family too.

I had learnt a lot of things from the speaker, Lionel Chin.
When he enters the lecture room, i just thought that he is just a normal simple person
Get to know that he is someone who is quite successful. It is very amazing indeed.

He do mention some points that is quite interesting to me. Firstly he mention about the working world. From what he said, the working world and school is very different. I do agree on that because I have been working and it seem that it is quite challenging comparing to school. School is being challenge by grade but in working world, they challenge by money, ranks and statues. Creating website for projects is quite easy as we able to get help from the lecturer and the tasks can be extending by persuading the lectures. Creating website for clients is quite risky as you need to be more well knowledge and able to give best website to meet the client’s satisfaction. Clients can be picky and also can be very demanding on what they wanted.

The great things is when you meet the need of client satisfaction, you also will be satisfy with the
work that you done. It will be a great achievement for you. Next thing is commitment. In web design you actually need a lot of commitment. It is not easy to make a website because there a lot of step needs to be done. First step is the website draft which actually had to be done in 1 to 3 working days. After that are the revision and the coding. It depend whether the client wanted to use html or other software which needed in the website which takes about 3 to 5 working days. Lastly the final review it actually takes about 2 to 3 weeks due to client approval or adjustment. It quite a risky task to do as they need to have more commitment when making the website.

He does mention one thing is that it better to make a portfolio as it could actually increase the standard that we are in now. Creating more unique design on our own able help us to improve more and develop more interesting design. He said that twitter is very useful website as it enables us to updates just by using hand phone.

He saves up a lot of money during his ns life before making a business. What he did really inspired me. Before he makes a business, he is a normal freelancer. He really works hard to make his own business which he name Ripplewerkz. He also did a lot of other website that is xiaxue.blogspot, nuffnagg.com, bossming.com, clicknetwork.tv, lunchactually, theblackdogstore and other more. He is quite successful I must say. He also said it better for us to start as a freelancer when we are still a student. It will help us to improve our skills.

Lionel Chin was a student once and after a few years saving up money during his ns period, he starts a business with a client and there he was very successful. There are some up and down when he making his business but he never give up. If he can do it, so do i.

This articles  has shown that online
activity is costing businesses millions of dollars due to the
social networking and media sites that the employees
visited.One claimed that Facebook is costing over 130 million
a day,with 233 billiom hours “lost” every month and merely web
sufting cost about US$63 billion each year. This lead that
employees are spending 10 out of 8 hours doing nothing at work.

To me,it is quite shocking to see that it actually affect the
people as well as the society itself as all the technology that were
involved especially internet.But it  is actually part of a human life.
Sometime employees suft to relax their mind after a
stressful moment or even their free time.Their usage in the
media can be control in certain extend for example company
could monitor on what they do and stuff which could actually
decrese the amount cost which they had lost.

But as the same time media has some advantages on its own. as media is
quite important in business industry.With the social
networking such as Facebook,Twitter and other social networks
to connect with people who could provide mentorship or even
get contacts to improve the business development.

To me,networking sites is not bad for productivity cause it
actually increase the productivity in either way whether in
profits or even bonding between company to company.

Sometimes,People tend to depend on technology till
they didnt realise that what they do affect the people around them.
Even kids at home was so into to the internet till
they even dont care about their time to sleep or even care to
think about school.This kind of addiction could effect their
personal life and time.More new gadget was introduced and new
media had been getting bigger and bigger when days goes
by.People had this kind of curiosity to look on new things and
take alot of time to research and get things that they wanted
or even what they desired to have. All people are like
customer,either it is minor or major.
Media had give people alot of dreams and saticfaction.
For example, iphone.Iphone had alots of uses in it.
There’s contacts,games,internet,wifi and many more.

From what i see, new media had the advantages and disadvantages in the industry.
Either the impact to the company itself or the people in it.
We could not actually control every single step of the media but could gain from it through
different technique or ideas to increase the company’s profits.
No matter what people think about media, it can never
be stop or prevented. Using new media can be a good equipment
in life but it can be very nasty.There alot more impact that
can be affected from new Media.Really hope in the future newmedia will be more useful than destroying a company’s benefits.
